Job Description
The Associate Director / Director of Special Opportunities Group will be responsible for identifying and executing special situations investment opportunities in the Japan market. This role requires a candidate with a flexible and creative mindset, with expertise in sourcing, analyzing and assessing potential investments, negotiating and structuring deals, and managing portfolio investments. The successful candidate will play a key role in driving growth and generating value through a disciplined and opportunistic investment approach.
You will report to the Managing Director & Head, Special Opportunities Group. This role is based in Japan.
Responsibilities
1. Investment Strategy and Execution :
Conduct thorough market analysis to identify potential special opportunities in Japan.
Evaluate and assess investment opportunities, including due diligence and financial modeling.
Develop investment strategies and business plans, and present recommendations to senior management.
Negotiate and structure investment deals, including terms, pricing, and risk allocation.
Oversee the execution and completion of investment transactions, working closely with internal teams and external stakeholders.
Assist in originating opportunities for the Private Credit team, so as to offer a wider spectrum of CLI investment capabilities.
2. Portfolio Management :
Monitor and manage the performance of the special opportunities investment portfolio.
Implement value creation initiatives and asset enhancement strategies to maximize returns.
Conduct regular reviews and analysis of portfolio investments, identifying opportunities for optimization and risk mitigation.
Coordinate with cross-functional teams to ensure effective asset management and operational efficiency.
3. Relationship Management :
Cultivate and nurture relationships with key stakeholders, including investors, partners, and industry professionals.
Collaborate with internal and external teams to identify and pursue co-investment opportunities.
Represent the organization in industry events and maintain a strong professional network.
4. Market Intelligence and Research :
Stay updated on market trends, regulations, and emerging opportunities in the Japan market.
Conduct research and analysis to identify investment themes and potential target sectors for special opportunities investments.
Provide insights and recommendations on market dynamics and investment strategies.
Requirements
Bachelor's degree in Finance, Business, Economics, or a related field. A Master's degree is preferred.
Minimum of 8-10 years of relevant experience in investment management, private equity, or a similar field.
Strong knowledge of the Japan market, including regulatory frameworks and industry dynamics.
Proven track record in sourcing, evaluating, and executing investment opportunities.
Solid financial modeling and analytical skills.
Excellent negotiation and deal structuring abilities.
