The Accounting and Finance Manager will be a pivotal member of our team in Japan, responsible for establishing and overseeing all financial functions of the Japan company's operations in close cooperation with the Hong Kong accounting and finance team. This role requires a hands-on approach to daily accounting, disciplined budgetary control, and timely financial reporting. The ideal candidate will be instrumental in helping to ensure financial stability, support business growth, and maintain compliance with all relevant regulations in Japan.
Based in Osaka, this role can also be performed remotely.
Key Responsibilities
Accounting Operations :
Manage all aspects of the general ledger, accounts payable, accounts receivable, and payroll functionsEnsure accurate and timely recording of all financial transactions in compliance with Japanese accounting standards (J-GAAP) or IFRS, as applicableOversee month-end and year-end closing processesManage cash flow, banking relationships, and treasury functionsFinancial Reporting & Compliance :
Prepare comprehensive monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements (Balance Sheet, Income Statement, Cash Flow Statement)Ensure compliance with all Japanese tax laws, corporate regulations, and statutory reporting requirementsLiaise with external auditors, tax advisors, and legal counselBudgetary Control & Cost Management :
Monitor financial performance against budgets and forecasts, identifying and analyzing variancesImplement and enforce strong internal controls and segregation of duties to safeguard company assets and ensure financial integrityDrive cost optimization initiatives across all departmentsTeam Leadership & DevelopmentPotentially build and lead a small finance team as the company grows.Provide financial guidance and support to other departments and management.Required Qualifications :
Education :
Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field. A CPA (Certified Public Accountant) or equivalent professional accounting qualification is highly preferred.Experience :
4+ years of progressive experience in accounting and finance rolesProven experience in establishing and managing financial operations, ideally within a new or rapidly growing companyStrong understanding of Japanese accounting principles (J-GAAP) and tax regulationsSkills :
Proficiency in financial accounting software (past working experience with Xero would be advantageous)Advanced Excel skills for financial modeling, analysis, and reportingExcellent analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making abilitiesStrong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to present complex financial information clearly to non-financial stakeholdersFluency in Japanese and English (both written and spoken)Desired Qualifications :
Experience in the automotive or motorsports industryExperience with international financial reporting standards (IFRS)Knowledge of Japanese corporate governance practices
