Business Overview

The Marketplace Business is responsible for developing Rakuten Ichiba, Rakuten's founding business.

Since its establishment in 1997, Rakuten's mission has been to "empower people and society through innovation." Through Rakuten Ichiba, we have broken down the barriers of trading areas and provided a system that allows anyone to easily open a store. This brings the joy of shopping to users all over Japan.

Today, it has grown into one of the largest e-commerce sites in Japan and is used by many customers.

Department Overview

The Market Marketing Department is at the core of the Rakuten Group and is responsible for formulating and promoting marketing strategies to expand sales of Rakuten Ichiba.

This department has an average age of 30, a gender ratio of 1 : 1, and consists of 4 members, including foreign nationals, creating a diverse and open-minded atmosphere.

The Consumer Insights Team is a specialized team within the Market Marketing Department. It analyzes Rakuten Ichiba's user behavior and purchasing data to uncover consumer insights, thereby supporting decision-making for marketing initiatives and business strategies. Through a data-driven approach, it plays a crucial role in supporting the further growth of Rakuten Ichiba.

Position Details

In this position, you will utilize user behavior data and purchasing data from Rakuten Ichiba, one of Japan's largest shopping malls with over 100 million members, to extract and analyze consumer insights, thereby supporting the planning and promotion of marketing initiatives and business strategies. After joining the company, you will deeply understand the consumer behavior of Rakuten Ichiba through data analysis and report creation, and then work on strategic analysis and proposal of measures.

Specific responsibilities

  • Analysis of user behavior data and purchasing data of Rakuten Ichiba
  • Extraction of consumer insights and proposal of marketing measures
  • Support for the development of data-based business strategies
  • Effect measurement and improvement proposals for marketing measures
  • Establishment and systematization of data analysis methods

Example projects

  • Analysis of purchasing behavior for each user segment and proposal of targeting measures
  • Effect measurement and improvement proposals for marketing measures
  • Planning of new measures based on consumer trends
  • Improving the accuracy of distribution amount forecasts using data analysis
  • Creation and sharing of reports on consumer behavior across Rakuten Ichiba

  • Mandatory Qualifications :

  • 5+ years of professional experience
  • Project management experience
  • Experience in data analysis and proposing strategies and plans based on analysis
  • Experience using Excel functions (LOOKUP, INDEX, MATCH, etc.) to aggregate, analyze, and present data
  • Desired Qualifications :

  • Experience in online marketing (e.g., with e-commerce companies)
  • B2C marketing experience
  • Data extraction and analysis skills using SQL and Python
  • Experience using BI tools (e.g., Tableau, Power BI)
  • Experience in consumer behavior analysis and market research
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to interact effectively with a variety of people
