Role Summary

The Grid Engineer will play a critical role in the successful integration of solar energy and battery energy storage projects into the electrical grid. This position involves technical design, regulatory coordination, and stakeholder engagement to ensure timely and compliant grid connection. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in electrical engineering and experience working with Japanese utility companies and EPC contractors.

How You Will Make an Impact

Grid Connection Planning & Application

  • Prepare and submit grid connection applications for solar energy and battery energy storage projects.
  • Design grid interconnection systems including transformers, switchgear, and transmission lines.
  • Develop technical drawings such as single-line diagrams, layout plans, and cross-sectional views.
  • Coordinate with utility companies to confirm application responses and negotiate grid connection terms.

Technical Design & Specification

  • Design overhead and underground transmission systems tailored for solar installations.
  • Specify substation equipment including ratings and functional requirements.
  • Prepare and review technical specifications for procurement and subcontracting.
  • EPC Coordination & Procurement

  • Develop scope and specifications for EPC tenders related to grid infrastructure.
  • Evaluate EPC proposals and conduct technical and commercial negotiations.
  • Support contract finalization and ensure alignment with grid connection requirements.
  • Construction Oversight

  • Oversee construction planning and execution of grid-related infrastructure.
  • Review and approve EPC submittals and ensure compliance with design standards.
  • Conduct on-site inspections and manage quality assurance processes.
  • Regulatory Compliance & Liaison

  • Prepare and submit documentation to regulatory bodies (e.g., METI or local equivalents).
  • Facilitate pre-use inspections and safety management reviews.
  • Ensure all grid connection activities comply with national and local regulations.
  • Internal Coordination & Support

  • Collaborate with project teams to align grid connection timelines with overall project schedules.
  • Provide technical guidance to design and construction teams.
  • Support budgeting and planning activities related to grid infrastructure.
  • What Makes You a Great Fit

  • Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering or related discipline.
  • 5+ years of experience in grid connection or power systems engineering, preferably in solar energy and battery energy storage.
  • Strong understanding of transmission and substation design.
  • Experience working with utility companies and regulatory agencies.
  • Proficiency in electrical design software (e.g., AutoCAD XTAP).
  • Excellent communication and negotiation skills.
