About the Role

The Senior Director of People and Culture forms part of the Hotel Leadership team who collectively make key strategic and operational decisions for the Hotels. This role has cluster People and Culture responsibilities for four hotels in Japan and is based at Four Seasons Hotel Tokyo at Otemachi.

The Hotel is looking for a Senior Director of People and Culture. Candidates with passion for excellence, expertise in hospitality operations and proven leadership experience are invited to apply for a career with Four Seasons. As a member of the Planning Committee, the Senior Director of People and Culture works across disciplines to deliver an exceptional experience.

What you will do

  • Direct and oversee all aspects of the People and Culture division for all four hotels in Japan, including benefits administration, employee relations, recruitment and retention of staff, communication to staff, career development of staff, wage & hour compliance, learning and development, workers’ compensation and legal matters related to hotel employees.
  • Monitor the quality of staff performance including review of disciplinary actions, recommendations for suspension or termination as well as establish a regular performance appraisal program for all staff.
  • Influence the quality, content, and intent of communications in the hotels and partner with the Directors of People and Culture to recommend the most effective vehicle of communication and the best channel to use in terms of ensuring that pertinent information is available to all levels of staff.
  • Assess the development and effectiveness of all levels of employees and the manpower needs of the hotels using succession planning and assisting management with career planning and counseling.
  • Partner with the Directors of People and Culture to review regularly the Human Resource budget including benefits, labor & salary reports and plan cost effective events within the Human Resource budget guidelines.
  • Partner with the Directors of People and Culture to establish and implement recruitment, selection, placement, and pre-employment procedures in accordance with Four Seasons Hotels and Resorts’ policy and all applicable laws to include hiring, staffing guide and compensation guidelines.
  • Review the hotels’ training and development needs at all hotels and create or coordinate the creation of programs designed to make employees proficient in their delivery of core and culture standards and prepare them for promotion from within.
  • Good knowledge of local law is required.

People Management

  • Cultural Advocate of the Golden Rule in every employee action in the hotels.
  • Lead efforts to ensure today’s and tomorrow’s talent through commitment to proactive recruitment strategies, performance management and career development processes and discussions, in the hotels.
  • Train and guide Directors of People and Culture in the hotels.
  • Assist hotels in dealing with all management under performance plans.
  • Able to build strong and sustain relationships with each General Manager, Director of People and Culture and Planning Committee Members in the hotels.
  • Support the Hotels as a Business Partner and guide the Director of People and Culture on business partner essentials.
  • Drive communication by hosting regular calls with Directors of People and Culture, and one-on-one calls as necessary to support communication needs in the hotels.
  • What you bring

    Education

  • Degree in Hospitality or equivalent experience.
  • Experience

  • A minimum of eight (8) years of work experience as Director of People and Culture within the hotel industry. ​
