Japan Tax Country Manager

ResponsibilitiesTeam IntroductionThe ByteDance Tax team is building to work with other corporate functions on tax advisory, planning, structuring, and tax controversy. We ensure compliance with direct (corporate income tax) and indirect tax and solve tax-related issues. We are seeking an enthusiastic Japan Tax Manager to join its Tax team in Tokyo to support its rapid growth and complex business. The ideal candidate will have solid experience in Japanese tax advisory, along with strong organisational skills. Responsibilities This role requires close collaboration with colleagues from multiple departments ( Accounting, Legal, Transfer Pricing, Treasury, and HR) to help manage tax obligations and implement practical tax solutions. - Tax Compliance, Provisioning, and Payments : Prepare and collate data for tax filings. Review externally prepared returns for technical accuracy. Ensure timely filing of tax returns, including corporation tax, consumption tax, withholding tax, and other local business taxes. Support central tax reporting requirements and review local tax accounting calculations. Manage tax payments, including forecasting and instalment calculations. - Tax Governance : Lead efforts to enhance end-to-end tax controls and processes. Handling inquiries and audits from the National Tax Agency. - Tax Business Partnering : Work closely with global Tax Business Partners, providing specialist local tax insights from both technical and operational perspectives. - Tax Projects : Support various local tax initiatives, including tax incentive applications, launch of new businesses. - Tax Legislation Monitoring : Track legislative changes, assess their impact on the business, and recommend practical solutions to address those changes. - The role will be based in Tokyo.QualificationsMinimum Qualifications : - Experience : 5+ years of Japanese tax experience in industry or multinational accounting firm. - Project Management : Capable of owning projects and managing input from various tax vendors. - Relationship Building : Ability to build strong relationships with internal teams and vendors. - Independence and Adaptability : A self-starter, comfortable working independently in a fast-paced and dynamic environment. - Learning Orientation : Passion for learning new tax concepts and conducting technical research. - Attention to Detail : Strong attention to detail to ensure accurate analysis. - Language : Proficient in Japanese Preferred Qualifications : - Professional Qualifications : Professional Japanese accountancy or tax qualifications. - Industry Experience : Experience in the TMT industry and related tax issues. - Languages : Able to write and read Chinese / English without difficulties - Accounting Knowledge : A good knowledge of accounting InformationAbout Us
