Your New Role...

The Director, Communications leads the development and execution of Corporate Communications and Publicity strategies for the Japan business. The role leads all media relations and communications efforts – from corporate messaging, executive communications and internal communications,to managing communications projects with partners.

The role spans communications across multiple lines of Warner Bros. Discovery’s business with a focus on Streaming, Linear, Local Production. The role will work closely with the GM, Japan on the strategic positioning of the business, and there will be an increased focus on internal communications and supporting culture change within the business.

The role reports to the Head of Communications, Asia Pacific, and will be the central Communications Lead for local Executives.

Your Role Accountabilities...

  • Leadership for all Communications strategies in Japan, across multiple businesses locally.
  • Work with GM, Japan and all local and corporate function leaders and businesses – particularly Marketing and People & Culture, to develop a compelling company narrative for internal and external audiences.
  • Develop and execute a clear internal communications plan to drive one team sentiment and working, and support P&C culture change initiatives.
  • Work closely with leadership and teams to ensure clear messaging for business and employee engagement initiatives.
  • Ownership and responsible for all internal tools [e.g. Workplace] and events [i.e. Town Halls] at a local level, including planning, logistics and operations.
  • Collaborate with external partners to drive communications projects around key priorities – i.e., streaming, content, local production.
  • Lead communications approach and provide counsel, in consultation with Head of Communications, APAC, for internal and external crisis situations when required, including proactive planning for high-risk matters and reactive issues management.
  • Partner effectively with all internal functions, including content, marketing, research, commercial and advertising teams in Japan and internationally.

Qualifications & Experiences...

  • 8 years’ experience in communications.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English and Japanese.
  • Independent thinker with a strategic mindset and strong advisory skills.
  • Demonstration of devising and implementing strategic communication plans, internal communications management preferable.
  • In depth understanding of Japan media landscape and experience of managing media queries and responses in a timely manner.
  • Ability to work with a variety of senior stakeholders.
  • Experience of crisis management. Flexibility under tight deadlines and the ability to respond to urgent issues with calm and professionalism.
  • Ability to assess priorities and always maintain composure and diplomacy.
