Business Overview

The Technology Platforms Division (TPD) is responsible for building and operating the infrastructure and ecosystem platforms which power the Rakuten Group. Our mission is to provide our Rakuten Cloud and Ecosystem Platforms which will deliver Core Value to accelerate the growth of Rakuten Group services.

Department Overview

The Infrastructure Services Department (INSD) mission is to provide high quality facility, network, compute and storage services. We empower Rakuten by stable, performant, secure, on-demand, green, cost competitive infrastructure. Position : Position Details

Group Manager of Data Center Strategy Office is responsible for the strategic planning, the mid-long term capacity planning and the data center development, as well as leading and managing the team. This role requires strategic planning, investment, DC capacity planning, technical lead, internal / external stake holder management and team development to accelerate Rakuten’s Data Center’s growth.

1.Strategic planning and management of data center :

  • Develop the vision and policies for the data center.
  • Develop and manage the business plan for the data center based on the business strategy.
  • Develop long-term growth strategies for the data center.
  • Develop Rakuten Group wide strategic synergy with other internal service organizations.

2.Development of mid-long term capacity and investment plans for the data center :

  • Develop capacity planning for the data center.
  • Develop and manage appropriate investment plans.
  • Inventory management to fit the future demand.

    • 3.Standardization for various indicators of data centers :

  • Data center future demand projections.
  • Develop pricing model for data center components.
  • Data center security policy standardization.

    • 4. Budget management and cost reduction initiatives for the data center :

  • Budget planning and management for the data center.
  • Development and implementation of cost reduction strategies.
  • Develop policies for efficient operation and management of data centers.

    • 5. Development of procurement (acquisition) plans for the data center and leading new data center expansion projects :

  • Project management for new data center construction and procurement.
  • Develop and manage plans for procurement and implementation of data center facilities and equipment.
  • Ensuring compliance with regulations and laws for the data center.
  • Conduct risk assessment and risk management for the data center.

    • Mandatory Qualifications :

  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in data center strategic planning and development.
  • Background in complex commercial development required in data center industry.
  • Ability to solve problems using analysis, technical and organizational expertise.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with strong presentation skills, and the ability to impact and influence.
  • Strategic approach and a track record of contributing to organizational growth.
  • Strong teaming skills and works well with internal and external team members and drives execution through collaboration and networking.
  • Fluent in Japanese and English.

    • Desired Qualifications :

  • Knowledge of business planning of data center business (Finance and investment).
  • Knowledge of regulations and laws related to data centers.
  • Data center design and operation experience.
  • Global team management experience.
  • Experience as an IaaS, PaaS, SaaS, or Data Center provider.
