About the Role

The Head of Publishing and Books Business will be pivotal in driving the overall books business strategy, overseeing editorial, production, developing publishing strategies, commissioning authors and translators, managing co-publishing relationships, and driving sales growth of both print and eBooks in Japan.

Responsibilities

  • Developing and implement business strategies to achieve the financial and operational goals for the books business.
  • Overseeing the entire editorial process, from manuscript acquisition to final production, ensuring high standards of quality and adherence to deadlines.
  • Reviewing current publishing processes and implement automation and AI tools to drive efficiency and speed to market.
  • Managing co-publishing relationships and agreements to expand the reach and impact of our titles.
  • Negotiating and overseeing contracts, ensuring mutually beneficial terms and successful collaborations.
  • Driving sales strategies for both print and eBooks to maximize revenue growth.

Requirements :

  • Have minimum 5 years experience in the publishing industry. 3 years at least should be in management
  • Have knowledge in commissioning and publishing processes. Preferred if ever having experience working with international publishers.
  • Business-level English and Japanese. Should be able to communicate professionally internally and externally.
  • Excellent project managmeent and business strategy skills.
  • Familiar with analytic tools such as Tableau desired, and knowledge in AI tools such as Microsoft Azure applicationsis is a plus.
