Founded in 2016, Mighty Earth is a global advocacy organisation with a mission to protect half of the Earth for nature and secure a climate that allows life to flourish. Mighty Earth protects nature and fights climate change by driving transformation across industry and government to rewild the world. Mighty Earth has played a leading role in driving a 90%+ decline in deforestation for palm oil, and similarly dramatic declines for other commodities in Southeast Asia, including the adoption of improved government forest and wildlife protections, and multi-billion-dollar shifts to clean energy.

Mighty Earth achieve results through campaigns, communications, and practical engagement with decision-makers, with more than half of their work focused on ensuring delivery of commitments. Their goal is to make significant progress in supporting impacted people globally, including protecting Indigenous land rights.

The Role

This regional role will scale Japanese and Korean contributions to help the world protect 30% of nature by 2030, with a focus on developing and leading strategies to increase Mighty Earth’s work and visibility in East Asia. To accomplish this, you will focus on three key areas : increasing nature finance, decreasing reliance on biomass, and tackling agricultural methane. Your key responsibilities include :

• Diverse stakeholder engagement and partnership building, including government, corporate, and investment sectors
• Building relationships with civil society and other key constituents in East Asia
• Producing and localizing content and media products and generating media attention
• Conducting research and drafting reports
• Project managing consultants across specific campaigns

Skills Required

You are passionate about protecting the natural environment and you have a strong commitment to advancing a more just society. Ideally you have broad experience, or demonstrated interest, in developing and implementing strategies that have influenced change. Your understanding of the social and political landscape across East Asia, especially in Japan and South Korea, will be an asset.

Your background likely includes experience in strategic planning, plus stakeholder engagement, advocacy, lobbying, or public relations. Energy and / or forest policy, or nature finance experience would be highly regarded, but is not essential.

You are confident engaging with senior decision makers, and skilled in building trusting relationships with diverse stakeholders. You thrive in dynamic political environments and can translate complex information into compelling and influential content to encourage change within government and the private sector. You speak native level Japanese and professional level English, fluency in Korean is a plus. You have the flexibility and adaptability to work well across different time zones and cultures. You must have working rights for your East Asia location.
